Perfume Genius bought the Glory album tour to Gothic Theater Saturday night featuring a rotating stage, a big blue ball and yes THE CHAIR. Mike Hadreas rounds out the band with Hand Habits' Meg Duffy on guitar, Pat Kelly on bass, Tim Carr on drums and Alan Wyffels on keyboards. Opening the night was Urika's Bedroom out of Los Angeles.
Perfume Genius' gentle yet consistently raw performance transitioned from intimate whispers with the audience (holding our breath with every syllable), to tossing the mic to the floor toppling over ladders. The tragically stunning experimental chair dance is a figure falling from heights, twisting-turning, legs and arms flailing in slow motion. It's a car wreck, it's a bag caught floating in the wind, it's a spinning display case with something inside you'll never be able to touch...he is utter elegance in motion. You're desperate to catch him as he crumbles and slides to the floor. And the music, pulling out a song first released 11 years ago, still brings the crowd to their knees. The new album is sure to do the same. Buckle up and maybe bring some knee pads. Perfume Genius Gothic Theater, Denver
